Why Children's Books

I loved reading as a child and recall visiting the local library in Ballarat, browsing and borrowing books. I am still a keen reader across a broad range of genres.

Why write children’s books?

“For me, writing is both a joy and a challenge. Ideas pop into my head at all times of the day and night stimulated by what I see and hear around me.  For some reason, I often come up with ideas in the shower!

When I’m writing I strive to create a story that will both interest and challenge. Writing for children is about making magic!  Hopefully my stories will encourage laughter, learning and engage the child, and the reader, in a shared and rewarding experience.

There is no greater privilege than sharing a picture book with a child. Reading together unlocks the mesmerising power of words and pictures, shaing the wonder of the amazing combination of text and illustration that simply leaps off the page and captures your heart.”

Children’s books open a door to a world of magic. They offer an opportunity to talk about important things in our lives as well as being just plain fun to read. Stories take us to real, imaginery, mystical, magical places.

Stories with a purpose – have an impact on the child reader and the parent, carer, teacher ……adult reader who reads the story and encourages the child to become familiar with the words

Reading is an experiential activity – touches our senses

Opening a book – what is inside?

Who is inside what are they doing where will they go …………identify

Teacher in me offers what I hope are pages of interest as the end of my books: Helpful hints, information and reference for parents and carers.

Raisin children, particularly in the world we currently live in, can be challenging. I hope that reading together can enhance our relationships with our children.  After all …………….

Any time is reading time!
